Dr. James L. Hudgins


University of South Carolina Dr. Jim Hudgins served in increasingly demanding professional positions in four different two-year colleges and a system office over a career of thirty-seven years. Through service as a chief student services officer, chief instructional officer and chief executive officer, he has gained a broad perspective of the mission and function of the two-year technical colleges in South Carolina. He retired from the System in December 2005. After fifteen years of service as an adjunct faculty member for the University of South Carolina, he joined the Higher Education program faculty in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policies at the University as a Clinical Professor in January 2006. He serves as Director of the Community College Leadership Alliance which has a mission of developing the future executive leadership of the South Carolina Technical College System. Additional leadership roles include the presidency or chairmanship of major educational, professional and community organizations.

Dr. Gemma K. Frock


Aiken Technical College Dr. Gemma Frock has served in increasingly responsible positions at Aiken Technical College. Presently she serves on the Executive Staff as Vice President for Education and Training, responsible for academic affairs, including the college faculty and all credit and non-credit programs. Dr. Frock earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at the University of South Carolina. She is one of the original faculty members for the Graduate Certificate Program. Dr. Frock teaches the first course in the Certificate Program - The Community/Technical College. In addition to providing valuable course content on the history and development of the community college, Dr. Frock instructs her class in the proper use of APA writing style.

Dr. Pamela J. Bowers


University of South Carolina Dr. Pam Bowers serves as Associate Vice President for Planning, Assessment and Innovation in the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support at the University of South Carolina. She leads efforts to improve effectiveness of departments through strategic planning, assessment and data-based improvement. Previously, she served as Director of Institutional Assessment at Oklahoma State University, where she was responsible for guiding, monitoring and reporting assessment efforts across the institution - in academic programs (majors), the general education program, and student life and alumni satisfaction. Dr. Bowers earned her Ph.D. in Applied Behavioral Studies at OSU. She teaches the Assessment in Higher Education course in the Graduate Certificate program.

Dr. Dennis A. Gribenas


York Technical College Dr. Dennis Gribenas is an experienced administrative officer, having served as the Vice President for Business Affairs at York Technical College since 1988. Early in his tenure as a full-time vice president at York, he pursued a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at the University of South Carolina as a part-time student, graduating in 1997. Prior to assuming the Vice President of Business Affairs position, he was controller and treasurer for the AVCO Corporation in Greenwich, CT. Dr. Gribenas has taught at two other universities and has taught the Finance course in the Graduate Certificate Program since 2006.

Mr. Pierce McNair


South Carolina Technical College System Pierce McNair is the Vice President for Organizational Relations and General Counsel for the South Carolina Technical College System (SCTCS). His primary focus with the System includes providing legal advice and partnering with state agencies, businesses, associations, and other organizations that have an interest in South Carolina’s technical colleges. Additional duties include governmental relations and acting as the liaison between the System Office and the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education and Presidents Council. He is a graduate of the SCTCS Leadership Academy, the American Association of Community College’s Future Leaders Institute, and the SCTCS Higher Education Leadership Cohort. Pierce is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College and the USC School of Law. He teaches Legal Aspects of Higher Education in the Graduate Certificate Program.

Dr. Michelle A. Maher


University of South Carolina Dr. Maher is an Associate Professor at the University of South Carolina Department of Educational Leadership and Policies, where she teaches in the Higher Education Administration program. This program currently has over fifty active doctoral students with professional backgrounds in two- and four-year college administration and student services. The program features the "world-famous" Disseration Bootcamp class and informal writing sessions called "Write On!," just a few of the efforts Dr. Maher and other faculty have undertaken to create a vibrant intellectual community and facilitate timely degree completion for all our doctoral students.
